Our Adventure Learning Vacation is just that – a thrilling adventure where you take your sailing and cruising skills to the next level. It’s not just a vacation – it is a customized, practical, hands on, full tilt, learning adventure. You will learn by doing as you take on the roles of Skipper, Navigator, Helmsman, and Crew.
Whether we are anchored in a harbor or sailing offshore, you will learn how to lead and how to follow, tips and tricks, tactics, procedures, preparedness, safety, handling emergencies, and much more.
You’ll be sailing while you learn near coastal sailing, practical navigation, crew overboard recovery at sea, and many other skills that will enable you to enjoy chartering and blue water sailing independently with safety and confidence.
Your Captains are world-class, ASA certified sailing instructors. They have extensive sailing and cruising experience – thousands of miles both on their own boats, and on charter vessels. Apart from the teaching, the information you absorb from these veterans over 8 days will prove invaluable.
ASA 101 and ASA 103, certifications are pre-requisite for the trip. If you do not have ASA 104, you will earn that certification on the trip. Sailors will also have the option of earning ASA 114 (Cruising Catamaran) or ASA 106 (Advanced Coastal Cruising) certifications as well. Our Adventures are scheduled multiple times throughout the year at a variety of destinations.
We typically have two 45 foot catamarans, and depending on the demand we may have a large monohull option. All boats have private double air-conditioned cabins with private head and shower. We have sailed the British Virgin Islands, the US Virgin Islands, the Spanish Virgin Islands, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Cuba, and the Bahamas.
Apart from the incredible sailing and training experience, our alumni get to see some amazing sights, like the bioluminescent bay in Vieques, the Pitons in St Lucia (Pirates of the Caribbean), Thunderball Grotto in Staniel Cay (007 Thunderball), all kinds of fish, rays, sharks, and believe it or not, swimming pigs!
All of our advanced sailing classes, part of our ASA Sailing School curriculum, are taught during our liveaboard 7-10 day adventure learning vacations. We bareboat charter monohulls or catamarans up to 50’ in length in various locations around the world including: U.S., British, and Spanish Virgin Islands; Bahamas; St. Vincent / Grenadines; Greece; Croatia; Tahiti; New Zealand; and Australia.
These classes are scheduled six to eight months in advance. The cost of the charter boat, meals prepared aboard, instructor, and associated cruising/mooring fees during the trip are included in the price. Each cabin must have at least one student enrolled in one of our advanced sailing classes (104, 114, or 106). In order to qualify to take ASA 106 with us you must have completed our ASA 105 Advanced Navigation class before departure. If you have already completed ASA 105 at another school, please contact us.
The cost of the adventure vacations vary by season and destination but typically start from $4,500 per cabin for monohulls and $5,500 per cabin for catamarans and fill up quickly. Maximum of two people per cabin. One cabin is dedicated for the instructor.
To qualify, you must at a minimum have completed Level II from our sailing pathways curriculum one week before departure.
